The same thing happens in aging men and women as what is clear.

Getting smaller is hair follicles. The resting telogen stage gets longer as the anagen stage of hair growth gets shorter. Here the result comes that hairs come that are thin and very short along with many follicles empty of hair shafts. 

What is the reason behind the pattern of hair loss only in the front and on top? It is here that hormone-sensitive follicles live. Usually staying healthy, the follicles on the sides and back of the head aren’t affected by DHT. 

Telogen Effluvium

All it means is increased hair shedding as the name is a fancy called telogen effluvium. It comes with lots of hair shedding. Many hair follicles enter the exogen stage all at once for various reasons.

Chemotherapy-Induced Alopecia

Growing wildly are cancer cells. By killing off cells with out-of-control growth, chemotherapy takes advantage of this. The hair matrix cells are unfortunately one kind of normal cell that grows like this. 

Forcing growing follicles into the catagen stage is chemotherapy. The hair breaks and falls out as the hair shaft doesn’t develop properly. 

The follicles regenerate is the good news that is when chemotherapy is over. Growing again is healthy, new hair. Chemotherapy causes near-total hair loss as the bad news is that in the short term. 

Alopecia Areata

Attacking the cells of the growing hair bulb is sometimes a person’s immune system. Called alopecia areata is this autoimmune condition. 

Hair follicles are forced into the catagen phase just as in chemotherapy.

Usually in patches scattered across the scalp, hair break and fall out. 

Attacking only the hair bulb is sometimes the immune system. The hair follicles regenerate when the immune system is bought under control in this case. 

In which the immune system attacks the stem cells in the bulge of the follicle, alopecia areata is not related to a more serious condition known as cicatricial alopecia. Permanent hair loss is the result. 

Today's Hair-Loss Treatments: Drugs

With an ingredient called minoxidil, many people know that men can buy shampoo by now. Fighting androgenic alopecia in both men and women is minoxidil originally developed as Rogaine. 

On how minoxidil works are still not entirely clear. About how well it works, there’s disagreement. It slows new hair loss used properly twice a day, massaged deep into the scalp. Although experts disagree about how much, it also promotes new hair growth. 

According to Andrew Kaufman, MD, not getting acceptable hair growth is two-thirds of men with moderate to very good hair growth. Kaufman, a hair-transplant surgeon, comes to be an assistant professor of clinical dermatology at UCLA, and the medical director of the Centre for Dermatology Care, Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Cotsarelis then agrees that definitely affecting most men is minoxidil.

Someone starting to go bald would use it whereas it's not something a bad person would use. Maintaining the hair you have is the goal. 

Propecia with the generic name of finasteride is the other currently approved drug for hair loss. Working only for men is this. Why is it so?

From forming its DHT by-product, it keeps the male sex hormone testosterone. Lengthening the resting stage of hormone-sensitive follicles, DHT signals shorten the growth phase. 

Loss of libido is one side effect of Propecia. Cotsarelis says it usually goes away over time. 

Becoming popular for men is testosterone replacement. Warning that this may accelerate hair loss is Cotsarelis. It might affect the dose of male hormone replacement therapy as Propecia might help but it prevents testosterone breakdown. Make sure their doctor carefully monitors their testosterone levels as Cotsarelis warns men taking both Propecia and testosterone replacement. 

For maximum effect, many men use both minoxidil and Propecia. Also combined with hair replacement surgery are the drugs. 

As Kaufman then says, it is always possible that one or the other or both can be taken. He shouldn’t use them if a person isn’t going to use

Rogaine twice every day or take the Propecia pill once every day. 

The question here is why. Hair loss resumes and any gains soon are lost once treatment with either minoxidil or Propecia stops.
