2021 Hair Colour Trends

Warm Tones

When it comes to hair colours, things are about to get a lot warmer in 2021. They will be seeing more gold, ginger, and strawberry tones this next year as balayage specialist and Lift Hair owner Kelly Massias notes.

Modernized ’90s Hair Colours

We will be experiencing a blast from the past as we head into the future. Especially when it comes to hair the ’90s are back, back, back, again.

Hair educator and Rebel Femme founder Mirella Manelli shares definitely a hot trend for 2021 is modernised ‘90s hair colour. Lots of high contrast highlighting, colour blocking, and split dye are being seen. You can find it both in high contrast and soft lines of demarcation as colour blocking has already made a comeback. With a colour melt or back-to-back teasy lights for that bold money piece but still have a rooted effect for example is a great way to soften high contrast would be. Still having that edgy ‘90s vibe is this great transition from some of the current trends and for clients who love to keep it low maintenance.

Glossy Hues

Highlighting how 2021 will be the year of expensive-looking hair is a hairstylist and creative director of Saks Hair & Beauty UK, Luke Pluck Rose.

He believes the trend is simple making everything look expensive after coming through the trouble we have all been facing. Making your hair look healthy and shiny whether it's an all-over colour it has to be high gloss. Going back to more golden highlights and less root it will be a slight revamp on balayage.

2021 Haircut Trends

Blunt Cuts

Kelly exclaims blunt cuts come to be where it is at. Looking amazing for both long and short cuts is this type of cut with a soft texture. Only for those who want to go short aren’t blunt haircuts. Rocking the hair trend is even those with longer strands.

Shorter Curtain Bangs

In 2021 we will be seeing more curtain bangs. They will be a bit less grown out than they are now as Luke believes.

He says giving an authentic ‘70s vibe he believes people will be having them cut shorter for more of a full fringe/bangs.

All Sorts of Bangs

We are going to see even more banging variations in 2021 as curtain bangs will absolutely have their moment. To be everywhere, Mirella notes we can expect hard fringe, side-swept bangs, and curtain bangs. Are you willing to try them yourself?

Asymmetrical Haircuts

Asymmetrical haircuts may very well have their time in the spotlight this upcoming year keeping the throwbacks coming.

Mirella then shares that with disconnected undercuts and statement pieces on one side, asymmetrical haircuts were a huge trend in the ‘90s and we may just see this trend roll out of the shadows. With a short bob and long angled front sections think Posh Spice vibes.

’70s-Inspired Haircuts

The ‘70s inspired haircuts are sure to take centre stage in 2021 going even further back into the past. That popularity will only skyrocket as the shag was fairly popular this year.

We will see a variety of those ‘70s inspired feathered back fringe, curtain bangs, wavy mullets, baby mullets, and shag haircuts according to Colour specialist and Pulp Riot Hair educator Jessica Jewel

Hand-Painted Buzzcuts

Already having shown off their colourful buzzcuts on Instagram were celebrities like Halsey and Ruby Rose. All over social media in 2021 Jessica is sure we will see plenty more hand-painted buzzcut looks.

Wigs

Requiring its own level of maintenance is any new cut or colour. Requiring some upkeep is even a hairstyle that is low-maintenance. Jessica predicts there will be more people diving into wearing wigs given how unpredictable 2020 was.

Without having to do much of anything it’s a great way to change up your look.

2021 Hair Accessory Trends

Claw Clips

We will definitely be seeing a lot of it in 2021 as the ‘90s accessory started gaining attention towards the latter half of 2020.

Kelly mentions making them great for effortless looks are modern claw clips that are super cute and easy to use.

Ribbons

One we find surprising is ribbons as we will see plenty of suspected accessories grow in popularity. On half-up half-down hairstyles in 2021, Luke mentions we will be seeing more ribbons used as bows.

Statement Headbands

Specifically, statement headbands, Mirella points out how headbands will be making the rounds this year. Adding a little structure to your style they are a great way to accessorize an updo.

Oversized Accessories

This year go big or go home with your hair accessories. According to Jessica, it’s all about the oversized scrunchies, scarves, and bows. In the world don’t be afraid of letting your accessories take up space.
