In Bogus Cosmetics, The Ingredients Include Mercury And Faeces

What Are The Bogus Cosmetics Made Of?

It can be costly when you stock up on the latest beauty products. The question arising here is whether it is possible to save money and still put the best face forward?

At reputable retailers, you may luck out and find things on sale. From sellers that may not be around tomorrow like a flea market vendor beware of prices that seem too good to be true on the internet.

You may end up with more trouble than you bargained for by buying these products.

To a 47-year-old California woman that’s what happened earlier this year. After using a Pond’s-labelled skin cream purchased in Mexico, she was semi-comatose for weeks. The product turned out to have been adulterated with mercury. According to published reports, the levels of mercury in her blood were 500 times the normal amount.

It doesn’t use mercury in its products was noted by Ponds. Investigating this product tampering the company is working with authorities.

The statement further explains, deserving close attention and consumer awareness is the illegitimate sales, product tampering, and reselling are beauty industry issues.

Why Is It Important To Identify Counterfeit Products?

Most incidents of cosmetic counterfeiting or product tampering aren’t as serious, fortunately. It is hard to know exactly what is in the products you are putting on your face whereas if you don’t buy from reputable retailers.

From a well-known outdoor shopping area last year, officials in Los Angeles seized $700,000 worth of counterfeit cosmetics. Including Urban Decay, NARS, MAC, and Kylie Cosmetics were the knock-off products that included these high-end brand names.

It is often observed that these customers don’t get the luxury products always hoping for. Coming with some surprising results in fact are the lab tests of the products. According to ABC News in Los Angeles, the makeup was contaminated with high levels of bacteria and faeces.

Explaining it was Detective Rick Ishitani of the L.A. Police Department, that counterfeit product isn’t made under the same safe and hygienic conditions that real products are when asked how faeces got into the makeup.

He told ABC News that wherever they are manufacturing this stuff, those faeces will just basically somehow get mixed into the product they are manufacturing in their garage or their bathroom.

Urging consumers to be cautious is the US Food and Drug Administration.

What Do Government Agencies Have To Warn About?

According to an FDA spokesperson, it may be harmful to a consumer’s health when counterfeit products are used including cosmetics that are illegal.

Counterfeits that may contain harmful or coming with banned ingredients that are unacceptable by-products of manufacturing or unapproved colour additives as the danger is according to the FDA.

Actively fighting to counterfeit were the companies that make cosmetics and skincare products.

Dr. Scott Wasserman, founder, and CEO of Cosmetic Alchemy, maker of LiLash and LiBrow, products used on eyelashes and eyebrows were of the opinion that it's only getting worse as cosmetic counterfeiting is therefore found to being the scourge of the industry.

To identify suspected counterfeit products found in shipping containers Wasserman said Homeland Security contacted this Scottsdale Ariz.- based company three times in one month. The problem is not just bulk products coming into the country. Another source of counterfeits is the internet. The site had to remove 465 listings that were offering fake products when Cosmetic Alchemy submitted a product trademark to the website Alibaba.

How Can Consumers Protect Themselves?

It is always easy when coming to say that it comes almost impossible for the average consumer to tell what the difference is between a branded product and a well-done counterfeit, was Dr. Shari Lipner, a dermatologist with New York-Presbyterian and Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City,

Adding to it she says the best advice comes to buy cosmetics as well as skin care products from reputable sources as she explains to maintain healthy skin, you don’t have to spend a fortune.

The Conclusion Of The Discussion

On sale at flea markets or re-sold online in channels such as auctions, the FDA cautioned consumers to be wary of products on sale. For any evidence that the product might have been repackaged or relabelled, it is recommended to check the packaging carefully. Make sure the product looks and smells like it should also.

When it makes the lips itch, what if you just couldn’t pass up that $10 lipstick at the flea market that normally sells for $50? The first step is to stop using any product that irritates your skin as Lipner says.

She continues that as long as you do not expose the skin to the offending product, most skin rashes are short-lived and will improve.

See a doctor preferably a dermatologist as Lipner says if the rash continues to worsen, becomes painful, or blisters.
