How About A Cosmetic Surgery In Paradise?

Many people opt for cosmetic surgery in paradise. How is it possible as there is a lot of post-operative care needed? What do experts have to say?

How About A Cosmetic Surgery In Paradise?

Surgery Vacation

Hop a flight to Cozumel for a week-long resort stay for a fabulous vacation plan. While you recover from plastic surgery, enjoy poolside lounging, fine dining, and barefoot walks in the surf.

You are right. You can get away from it all and also have your nose, breasts, face, or tummy done, as there are many cosmetic surgery clinics in Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America. If you are going to be in recovery for a while, why not convalesce in paradise as your friends won't bug you because they are hundreds of miles away.

As Malcolm Paul, MD, president of the American Society for Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery says, making perfect sense is the allure of it. He however thinks it is a bad idea as it's a whole lot better to stay home.

Cosmetic surgery is nothing like a spa treatment is what Paul argues. Involving real risks, it is real surgery. Often concerned about the people he says those who leave the US won’t be guaranteed the same medical standards as they have at the home. The doctor might not be equipped to deal with them if you were to have life-threatening complications during the operation.

You can’t be certain that the results will satisfy you and what’s more?

Your doctor wouldn’t be just down the street if you were to need follow-up work done. It is possible that for another plane ticket and another hotel stay you would have to pay

A cosmetic surgery vacation might not be as much fun as you would expect besides the risks as Paul says. No doctor would tell you it's OK to splash in the ocean with bandages and stitches as you are supposed to avoid the sun after surgery even if you wanted to.

Bargains Galore

Drawing people to foreign clinics is low costs. It can be seen that a surgeon in Manhattan thereby charges $5,000 for a nose job, as also one in Mexico is sure to charge $1,800. It is just not this procedure where fees differ greatly. In New York, a facelift may set you back $7,500. Whereas you can have it done for as little as $4,000 down in Mexico.

You shouldn’t let a bargain sway you as Paul says. He says that further, it doesn’t come as a good idea trying to save money on the plastic surgeon as well as your parachute.

Paying top dollar doesn’t necessarily mean you will get top quality in the procedure. Surgical clinics must factor their overhead into their rates like any business. Tending to be quite a bit cheaper than a suite on Fifth

Avenue is an office space in Mexico.

A doctor’s training and experience should be a higher priority than cost, no matter where the clinic is according to Bruce Lattyak, MD, cosmetic surgeon at the Bermuda Wellness Centre. He thereby states that developing a rapport with your surgeon is the most important thing that he thinks. Leaving no doubt that you are incapable of hands should be your conversations with the surgeon.

The surgeon should be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery which is good to know. Working abroad, you can find American board-certified doctors. As he says he has friends who have been doing that for years.

Many surgeons are not certified by the American board outside the US. For example, surgeons trained in Europe don’t come with the American board certification whereas it also doesn’t make them hacks. It is important to find out the kind of training a foreign doctor comes with.

From a known and respected university as well as a past experience like a surgical residency at a good hospital he or she should have a degree in surgery. You must remember that a surgeon may be trained in surgery of the head and neck whereas they wouldn’t be qualified to operate on other parts of the body. To do your breast implants, you probably don’t want that surgeon.

Where you know what’s what and who’s who, that may be another argument for having surgery in the US. To figure out which foreign hospitals and universities are reputable is hard.

Road to Recovery

On the island of Bermuda is the Wellness Centre where Lattyak works. After you have your surgery, you recover in one of several nearby guest houses or hotels as it is an outpatient clinic.

He argues that recovering in a spa-like atmosphere may be a terrific boost to the healing process as Lattyak says he understands why doctors like Paul discourage cosmetic surgery vacations. You are always burdened with chores and responsibilities at home. He further says being able to leave some of that behind is a real boost.

How Do You Conclude?

Susan Canale, the nurse at the Cosmetic Surgery Centre of San Carlos, Mexico, tells that coming with a realistic understanding of their postsurgical limitations and restrictions are most of our patients. In a beautiful, private, and peaceful seaside town what the centre offers is an affordable service.

Plan for a long enough stays if you do choose to travel for surgery. As Lattyak says, they should outline the expected recovery time in case of anyone doing the surgery. It is possible not to do this on a whim.
