Almost double of what I now have, I once had great hair. Whereas I never experienced any hair loss not even a strand of it. It only seemed to get worse once it started. About what could be done to treat the issue I consulted a dermatologist to understand the natural hair fall and regeneration cycle. On how dietary and topical application of natural ingredients can help in mitigating the loss I also started reading about causes of hair fall. As I started noticing a difference these efforts paid off.
Hair Loss Is Associated With A Number Of Factors.
It is important to understand the basics of hair health before we get down to treating hair loss. Sulphur plays a crucial role in keeping a strand intact to its root as the hair is made up of keratin. Which can be acute or chronic, common hair fall is termed as telogen effluvium. In the acute form, it is very often seen after a systemic illness like typhoid or malaria and also chronic as it seems to be coming with vitamin deficiencies in the system. Leading beauty expert and dermatologist, Dr. Deepali Bhardwaj says due to which hair loss and breakage increases tremendously its often caused due to the absence of high sulphur proteins.
Hair fall has a set pattern and every three months there comes a different cyclical phase called catagen, anagen, and so on in her opinion. We see the difference in the pattern of hair fall along with the different seasons during every cycle. Dr. Bhardwaj noted that daily loss of about 100 hair strands is normal as medically several studies noted.
How I Combated Hair Loss
You need to dedicate time to yourself to combat hair fall. Starting to reflect the results it takes a while for your efforts to kick in your system. That helped me immensely here are some tips.
- First thing in the morning is to drink a mouthful of amla and aloe vera juice.
- Every day two teaspoon flaxseeds
- At least thrice a week hair wash with my regime including oiling once a week thereby followed by a hair pack/wrap, shampooing, then conditioning and finally applying the serum.
Thrice a week hair wash is a must.
- Drink at least two litres of water daily.
- Use only a wooden comb to comb properly.
- Intake less caffeine and included green tea, nuts, dry fruits, and green leafy vegetables in my diet.
- Including hair colouring, ironing, etc, ditching hair styling products completely.
- Use no cosmetics and only mild, herbal products.
What really helped was the topical application of onion juice on the scalp other than these. The process included getting two-three large onions extracting the juice, applying it on my scalp, and finally leaving it on for 20 minutes, and then wash it off. It is found to do wonders for hair loss as onion juice facilitates hair growth, checks scalp infections, and then keeps it clean and refreshed whereas not many would know
Onion For Hair-Loss
Responsible for its pungent odour and health-promoting properties onion belongs to the Allium family and is very rich in sulfur-containing compounds. The highest content of it is found in onions as it should be remembered that polyphenols are one of the largest categories of phytonutrients in food. Including the major diallyl sulphides, a wide variety of allyl sulphides are found in onion.
Found abundantly in onions especially in their outer layers, methylsulfonylmethane is a highly absorbable source of sulphur.
Resulting in hair growth it facilitates the formation of keratin for hair. As Dr. Bhardwaj shared, similar to Alopecia Areata, it also helps a great deal in autoimmune conditions of hair loss.
Mixed with crushed methi seed powder and kept overnight with honey is onion juice. For normal scalp mix with olive oil or apply it on dry scalp.
For focal hair loss patches, it can also be applied as Dr. Bhardwaj suggests.
