On My Wedding Day, In Each Photo, I Look Like A Completely Different Person

Deciding on the wedding makeup look was as difficult as finding the perfect wedding dress which I could never have guessed. Do you think that as someone writing about beauty for a living and selecting a service and choosing a look should be easy, right? Then you are wrong. 

It was true that I wanted to look like the best version of myself on my wedding day like many brides-to-be whereas to find someone I could trust was where I was having trouble giving me the makeup of dreams.

For this, I certainly did some Googling and asking former brides which services were used for their weddings. The responses I received were most importantly: airbrush makeup applied with an airbrush machine rather than with traditional brushes and sponges, a makeup artist whom I found through Instagram, a makeup counter, a makeup service app as also a good ol’ fashioned DIY done either by the bride herself or by her friend. 

Trying out all five to find which was the best for me, as I wasn’t still sure of the look I would want and so gave each makeup artist the minimal instruction telling them I wanted to see their interpretation of the wedding day makeup. 

Firstly, The Airbrush Makeup Artist

Having never heard of airbrush makeup, but it was the way to go for weddings mainly due to the even finish and wearing the look for the entire day, it didn’t budge even slightly as the important quality was to look for in products you are going to wear for hours on end. Whereas the eye look overall was a little too subdued for my wedding, the artist then applied airbrush makeup to my brows as well as the eye shadow and eyeliner. So, I decided to do something more dramatic for the big day. 

My biggest takeaway: 

To have full coverage makeup you don’t have to cake on a heavy foundation and I was impressed that it was evenly and gradually applied and loving that airbrush makeup didn’t look super heavy. 

How Is The Instagram Celebrity Makeup Artist

How you find most people on Instagram is how I found Mac Daddy firstly through a tangled mess of the social-media deep-diving. When I first discovered the highlighter called Artist Couture learning that the creator came to be none other than the Insta-famous makeup artist and as he stopped through New York recently and asking him to do my makeup which was always a dream of mine for an Instagram makeup artist to contour my face. He focused on my skin, keeping my eyes and lips simple for this look. 

My biggest takeaway: 

Here we find proper skin prep is everything making sure the skin was super hydrated as Mac Daddy spent several minutes prepping my face with lotions and serums before applying any makeup. 

Think Of The Makeup Counter

It is s solid option if you don’t want to spend a fortune and still want to get the makeup professionally done, even though going to a counter on the big day is inconvenient. Focusing the darker shades of shadow on the inner and outer corners of my eye and the lightest shimmery colours on the middle of the lid, Ashley gave me a halo eye look and the cool idea was because it came to be different from how I normally wear my makeup. My particular pick was to elongate my eyes by keeping the lighter shades on the inner corners whereas it wasn’t so different than I was unrecognisable to myself. 

My biggest takeaway: 

Firstly, apply makeup only where you need it as Ashley never applied foundation, concealer, or powder all over my face whereas she used the products only on spots where there was discoloration or areas of concern. There’s no need to load up the foundation on the face for your wedding day if you’re not someone who normally wears foundation or don’t need it.
