We Introduce Your Very Own Guide To A Perfect Pedicure

Don't Risk a Colour Clash

Have you found your perfect shade of nail polish? To wear it on your fingers and toes, would it be too matchy-matchy? Helping you look more finished is wearing the same shade of polish on your fingers and toes. Make sure they coordinate when you use two different colours. It isn’t the way to go having red fingernails and blue toenails.

Do Soften Calluses Carefully

Hardened skin that can crack and hurt if they get too thick are calluses and corns. Don’t let the salon technician use a razor on your feet during a pedicure. Raising the risk of infection are razors. Soak your feet in warm water for at least five minutes at home. To remove calluses then use a foot file, pumice stone, or exfoliating scrub. It can cause calluses, so don’t go barefoot either.

Do Cultivate Beautiful Cuticles

Treat them well as cuticles keep out germs. During a pedicure, tell the nail technician not to push back or cut your cuticles. Raising your risk for infection is this. Never tear your cuticles in-between visits. By rubbing in moisturiser, you can soften ragged cuticles. See your doctor if you notice that your cuticles are red or irritated.

Do Erase Memories of Pedicures Past

If you leave them on for more than two weeks, dark, dramatic shades such as red and purple can stain nails yellow. To remove stains, use an acetone nail polish remover or a non-acetone remover followed by lemon juice. Use a clear base coat first when you polish. You may have a fungal infection if your discoloured nails are also thick, brittle, or curled. Head over to your doctor’s office instead and skip the polish.

Don't Shave Before a Pedicure

Don’t shave your legs before a pedicure no matter how embarrassed you are. On freshly shaved legs, bacteria are most likely to get into your body through tiny nicks or cuts. Thriving in a dirty footbath are certain kinds of bacteria that live in tap water. Wait until after your pedi to shave as they can cause boils or other hard-to-treat infections.

Do Bring Your Own Tools

Even if you feel self-conscious, you can take your own tools to a nail salon. On salon tools that aren’t cleaned like emery boards, germs can linger. They should be heat sterilised, soaked in the clear antibacterial solution, or come pre-packaged if you choose to use the salon’s tools. During your appointment ask for a new tool if one falls on the floor. Obviously, you don’t want to leave the salon with a skin or nail infection.

Do Trim Toenails Right

When you cut your toenails almost straight across to trim them in between pedicures, they keep them strong, this helps prevent ingrown toenails. It is fine if you are filing your nail slightly so that they are rounded in the centre. Gently clean underneath them with a manicure stick before you polish your nails. Your health care provider will do regular foot exams and teach you how to care for your feet if you have diabetes.

Don't Get Hooked on Fish Pedicures

Rather than scrubbing them off, some salons let a certain kind of fish nibble the calluses off your feet. These fish pedicures are banned by some states. While the fish are in them, salon workers can’t clean the tubs well in between customers. So, they may spread infections from other customers as it is not possible to clean the fish.

Do Protect Your Pedi in Winter

Bring plastic wrap to your pedicure to help avoid smudges in cold weather. Ask the technician to put a layer of cuticle oil on your newly polished toes before you leave the salon. Before you put tights, socks, or shoes back on wind the plastic wrap around them. It can be worn with flip-flops as pedicure socks have openings for toes. Leaving your toes exposed, slip your feet into special pedicure boots that have a front flap.

Do Go Natural Once in a While

Nails need to breathe and have moisture and polish acts as a barrier whereas you might think bare toenails are ugly. Enjoy the low-maintenance look as you skip the nail polish for a week or longer each month. If you can’t fix it as soon as it chips, it is a good idea to remove your nail polish. In the spots where polish is missing, your toenails are vulnerable to damage. Go ahead and change it anyway if by some miracle your polish lasts two weeks.

Consider a Pedi During Pregnancy

A pedicure may sound heavenly when you are pregnant and feel bloated, and even the ankles are swollen. Here comes the good news!!! Pampering your feet is OK. During pregnancy, pedicures are safe. The chemicals in the nail polish aren’t absorbed by your nails. Try sitting near a window or an open door if the odours from nail products make you feel ill.

Do Keep Your Tools Squeaky Clean

Keep them clean whether you bring your own nail tools to the salon or use them at home. Give the tools a good scrub with soap and water after each pedicure. For at least 10 minutes, then soak them in a disinfectant solution like rubbing alcohol.

Don't Knock the 'Man' Pedicure

We have found that there is of course no reason as to why guys can’t have neat toenails. With or without nail polish, some salons and barbershops offer special guy-friendly pedicures. Catering to both sexes is an everyday salon.

Do Pick the Right Polish Remover

If your polish is very dark, nail polish removers with acetone work well. If you have a gel or shellac finish which is hard to remove, they are also a good choice. Go for a non-acetone remover as acetone can be drying and harsh if your nails or skin are sensitive. Whereas it's gentler, but it will of course take more work to remove the polish.

To Conclude, Don't Use A Sketchy Nail Salon

Even if you are desperate for a pedicure, always check out a new salon beforehand. Between clients, be sure employees wash their hands and clean their equipment. It shouldn’t be overpowering as most salons have an odour from nail products. Meaning that the ventilation system doesn’t work is a very strong smell. Always check for the nail technician’s state cosmetology license. Make sure it is current and on display.
