These Are The Tips For Your Summer Makeover

Look Good And Feel Great With These Tips

This summer do you want to wow your friends? From head to toe try this summer makeover with eight ways to look good and feel great.

1. Start With Soft, Shiny Hair

Registered dietitians Susan Mitchell, Ph.D., and Catherine Christie, PhD give those natural ways to use food to help you look your best in the book Smart Cookies Don’t Get Stale. They suggest coating your hair with mayonnaise or olive oil along with other oils such as canola to liven up dull, dry hair. The procedure includes wrapping the head with a plastic wrap followed by a warm towel and relax for 10 minutes or longer. For a great feel and fresh smell, wash the oil out with an herbal shampoo.

2. Protect Your Eyes From UV Rays

Your eyes too deserve protection just as you slather suntan lotion on your skin. Damaging the cornea of the eye is excessive exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Wearing sunglasses block 99% to 100% of UV-A rays and UV-B rays as recommended by The American Academy of Ophthalmology as UV-B rays are doing the most damage to the eyes.

Remember to still wear your sunglasses for maximum protection of your entire eye even if you wear contacts with UV protection.

3. Whiten Your Teeth

To bring attention to your summer glow, there is nothing like white teeth. Whitening teeth is a safe and rewarding procedure according to pediatric dentist Mike McIlwain, DMD. As he explains, for two weeks at night, you can use either the whitening strips or trays. Taking a little over an hour, you can opt for the in-office whitening at your dentist’s.

Both methods work well as McIlwaine says the in-office method is more costly. He says while good for maintenance is provided by whitening toothpaste, whereas it is possible they will not give you dramatic changes. Adding to that those over-the-counter whitening systems are observed as not working as well as the formula you can get from the dentist.

To keep them looking beautiful and healthy make sure to get your teeth checked and cleaned every six months

4. Be Confident And Stand Tall

The tips from Kim Smith, MD, the Tampa based rheumatologist is as follows: make sure that your chin is parallel to the ground when you stand tall. Next, balance a book on your head and look forward and not down. As if they are attempting to touch, draw your shoulders together.

Keeping your neck long, pull your stomach toward your spine, and lift up your chest.

Smith recommends this easy posture test for her patients:

Imagine a line from your ear to the floor standing sideways in front of the mirror. You have to observe the line going through the tip of the shoulder, the middle of the hip, the back of the kneecap, as well as the front of the anklebone. To become more aware of how you stand, do this several times a day.

5. Super-Saturate Your Feet And Heels

The founder of the cosmeceuticals company B.Kamins is the dermatological chemist Ben Kaminsky. Especially prone to thickened skin called hyperkeratinisation, calluses, skin cracking, itchiness, and irritation are the feet and heels according to him.

Foot creams that contain alpha-hydroxy acids are recommended by Kaminsky. Glycolic acid is one example. Helping smooth skin, exfoliate dead cells, and stimulating the growth of new, softer, and healthier skin are AHAs. As the ingredients are cooling and refreshing, foot creams usually contain peppermint oil, menthol, menthyl lactate, or a combination of these.

6. Protect Your Skin From The Sun's UV Rays

To all exposed skin, from head to toe, about 15 to 30 minutes before you go outside, Kaminsky recommends applying 1 ounce of sunscreen generously every morning. After swimming, sweating, showering, bathing, or wiping your skin reapply every 2 hours. When you select the sunscreen go for the following SPF factors depending on the type of the skin:

  • For black or brown skin that always tans, SPF of 15 or more.
  • For skin that sometimes burns, SPF of 30 or more.
  • For light coloured skin that always burns, SPF of 45 or more.

The Final Thoughts

These tips end here. But when you want protection from the sun, make sure you get the expert advice as each skin type has a variable skincare regime. Protecting hair and skin is the only way to look good and feel great. Hence the days are bright for those who follow the perfect skin and hair care routine.
