Hidradenitis Suppurativa And Its Effects: What You Should Know

The Condition Called Hidradenitis Suppurativa

It can be hard to predict exactly what it will be like as Hidradenitis suppurativa comes to be different for every person. There are some good ways to manage the condition along with your treatment plan. So that you can make changes that will help, it is better to know how the disease can affect your life.

How Long Will I Have HS?

You will have to manage the condition for life as there is no cure for HS.

It is a cycle of flareups and periods when their skin is clear, for most people. In the same general areas of your skin, breakouts tend to happen. There is a possibility that there are spots that stay broken-out all the time. After menopause, some women find their HS clear up.

Will It Get Worse?

It comes that HS is a progressive disease. Over time it means that it gets worse. Within days or hours, a small pimple can turn into a large boil.

Inflammation and infection spread quickly and new lumps form nearby if the boil ruptures underneath the skin. Lasting a week or two is a flare-up.

Helping you avoid the most serious symptoms, is the treatment that can keep HS from getting worse. Starting it early is the key factor.

How Often Should I See My Doctor?

Determining how often you see your doctor are your symptoms and the way the body responds to treatment. On your own, you may be able to manage mild symptoms. You may need to go in regularly if you take a drug that is injected or delivered through a vein.

Will It Lead To Other Health Problems?

Other conditions like severe acne, arthritis, heart disease, obesity, and inflammatory bowel disease are often seen in people with HS. Why these conditions are linked is a mystery for doctors. The reason may be that the causes of HS lead to other problems also.

People who have HS for a long time may be more likely to get a type of skin cancer called squamous cell carcinoma, even though it's rare.

Keep them updated on how you feel as also talk about any new or unusual symptoms you have noticed as it is important to see the doctor regularly.

Is There a Possibility Of Pain Every Day, Or Only During A Flare?

The pain depends on the severity of your condition. Those large deep nodules or lumps can hurt. You may not be able to sit or walk normally depending on where they are. When the disease flares, some people only get these painful limps from time to time. The bumps or lumps never completely go away for others.

Your doctor can help you control it whether you have pain only during flares or more often. There are numbing creams or over-the-counter or prescription pain medicines available.

Is It Possible That I Will Smell Bad During Breakouts?

The fluids in the lumps do smell as the lumps themselves don’t smell.

The odour can escape when they burst and leak, too.

It helps when you keep things from rubbing against the cysts, by wearing loose clothing. Make it a point to not squeeze them. Wash the area gently with an antiseptic cleanser to get rid of the smell if they do burst. It also helps to use antibiotics.

So How Often Will I Have Flare-Ups? Is There Any Way To Prevent Them?

It comes unpredictable as you may have a flare-up every few weeks or you may go months with clear skin. Before their periods, some women find they have breakouts. While you are pregnant and breastfeeding, they may go away for a while.

To prevent breakouts, there is no sure way. If you follow your treatment plan, take any medication your doctor prescribes, and make some changes to your lifestyle, they may not come back as often or be as bad.

Getting to a healthy weight also matters. Closely tied to obesity is HS.

One of the best ways to keep it under control is by losing weight.

Try quitting smoking.

Staying cool also helps. When heat and sweat can trigger a flare-up, your HS may get worse in the summer. To get exercise without overheating, swimming is a good way.

Make sure near a breakout, you don’t shave. Laser hair removal may be a better choice if your razor irritates your skin.

Finally, be sure you watch what you eat. It may help to cut dairy and sugar from your diet as there is some evidence, and if you should try it, ask your doctor.
